Leading Senior Living Management Organization Promotes from Within
She loved being the director of nursing at Foulk Living senior living community in Wilmington, Delaware. But she loves her new role even more.
Janet Belles, a resident of Newark, has been in nursing for more than 40 years, the last 15 of which have been in senior living. Four years ago, she started as director of nursing at Foulk Living, overseeing healthcare. Belles was promoted to clinical specialist for Life Care Services®, an LCS® Company.
Thriving With the Support of LCS
Among the country’s largest senior living management organizations, LCS manages Foulk Living and its sister communities, Shipley Living in Wilmington and Millcroft Living in Newark. In her new role, Belles is charged with providing clinical support for the healthcare centers at the three communities. “LCS is focused on ensuring we provide the highest quality care and maintain and exceed regulatory compliance. I love my new role even more than I loved being the director of nursing. Now I’m able to help the three healthcare centers meet our standards and fulfill our promises,” she said. “It’s just nice. I’m helping them out; I’ve been in the clinical teams’ shoes, and I can help them do a better job.”
In the time during which LCS has been managing Foulk Living and Belles was director of nursing, she said, the healthcare center made great strides. “We maintained our five-star rating and were named among the Best Nursing Homes by U.S. News and World Report for 2022-2023. Furthermore, we were able to stop using agency nursing. Foulk Living also earned its Medicare A certification for short-term rehabilitation. LCS saw this as a priority and provided the support to make it happen.”
Standardization of Excellence
Belles said her new position “allows one person to oversee the clinical staff at all three communities so that we’re all implementing the policies and procedures in the same fashion through the same processes,” she said. “LCS has great clinical programs, and I’m working to ensure they’re all implemented and standardized in the same way.” Belles said she’s also impressed that LCS finds and promotes great talent within their communities. “It says a lot about the company. They’re invested in their employees and want to see them grow within the company.”
